Green Youth Club - GYC

The UNIYIA Youth Green Club program is designed to engage and capacitate students in middle and higher education in the global effort for climate justice, as well as empower them with the requisite knowledge and skills to act to be agents of positive change today. This initiative will serve as an innovative hub or platform where students will come together to learn, engage, compete and take actions to address environmental concerns within their communities and contribute toward the achievement of the United Nations SDGs.

Entries will be made in these schools with presentations on the urgency and importance of climate change awareness and the Sustainable Development Goals and the need for the students to play an important role in achieving them, especially at the lower school stage. Clubs will then be formed with meeting times once every week during school period. The schools will be visited quarterly where progress will be discussed and the action plans for further weeks made with their assigned mentors. At the end of the academic year and the last quarter, there will be an inter-school competition where the students will develop innovative projects that are focused on addressing climate change and SDG issues.

Learning materials will be provided to participants as well as climate change handouts and SDG souvenirs to create a picture of sustainability around them. Lower school students tend to learn faster with images that is why this technique will be vital for easy understanding of the topic.
